Customer Behavior And Loyalty - An Essential Tool In Sales Objectives - 550 Words

Customer Behavior And Loyalty - An Essential Tool In Sales Objectives (Essay Sample) Content: Customer Behavior and Loyalty Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Customer Behavior and Loyalty Businesses study consumer behavior because it benefits them before launching a product. Understanding consumer behavior is necessary because they have different minds and attitudes towards purchase, consumption, as well as disposal of products. Businesses should be able to comprehend and interpret the theories and concepts of consumer behavior to market their brands successfully in a more competitive environment. For instance, if there is a constant variation in the trend, living standards, fashion or change in technology, understanding consumer behavior is critical towards understanding their attitudes towards the purchase of a product (East, Wright, & Vanhuele, 2008). Therefore, businesses should realize such factors since they assist in determining the marketing of a product. As such, understanding consumer behavior serves as an essential tool for marketing managers in meri ting their sales objectives. Understanding consumer behavior assists business managers and marketers in designing the best possible product or service that fully satisfies customer's needs and demands. Further, it enables managers to make decisions where the product or service would be made available for easy access to customers. The study of consumer behavior also allows businesses to decide the right price that customers would be able and willing to pay for a given product or service (East, Wright, & Vanhuele, 2008). Businesses also benefit from finding the most appropriate method of promotion that will prove to be useful and understand why other factors influence the customer purchase decisions. When purchasing a product or service, there are five stages that customers go through n the buying process. The initial stage is need recognition, which involves the identification of customers’ needs that marketers are required to satisfy. The second stage is information search where customers focus on looking for vital aspects of the product or service. The information about products can be obtained from friends, family members, dealers, or retailers or by examining or using the product (Goldstein, 2009). The third stage involves evaluation of alternatives after obtaining the required knowledge concerning the product or service. The fourth step is making the actual purchase decision after evaluating the alternatives. However, there is a possibility to postpone the purchase decision based on certain reasons, such as lack of sufficient information about the product or service. The post-purchase behavior is the final step because after buying a product or service, consumers may be satisfied or dissatisfied with the product or service. Several factors influence consumers' buying behavior. These depend on the customer's experience and knowledge depending on a particular product, such as food. Some consumers may be very fast in making purchase decisions where as may require to obtain substantial information and get more involved in the purchase decision process. As such, consumers’ level of involvement depicts how personally important or interested when consuming a particular product and the amount of information that is necessary to make the purchase decisions. The level of involvement may be high or low and may vary from consumer to consumer and not by the product. The decision to buy a house will require a high involvement rate for all consumers. Customer loyalty is a term used to refer to the result of consistently having a positive emotional experience with a product based on satisfaction as well as the perceived value of experience. To build customer loyalty, it is necessary to blend the physical, emotional, as well as value elements of experience into a cohesive experience. Most often, businesses find it challenging to retain loyal customers. Goldstein (2009) observes that managing customer experience is the most effective approach that can be implemented by businesses to drive customer satisfaction, retention, as well as loyalty. Further, loyal customers are more likely to minimize the costs that are associated with educating customers and marketing, especially when they become the main promoters of the business. Given the highly competitive business environment, businesses have become highly concerned with customer experience programs that are most effective to differentiate a business from the competition. According to Goldstein (2009), it is necessary to note that differentiation effectively drives customer loyalty, especially when they are engaged on an emotional, intellectual, or spiritual level. They had a great knowledge of military operation, one of the best working democratic governments however they did not treat their females as equals. The Roman army was essential in the creation and upkeep of the Roman Empire. It defended the homeland and conquered other nations to bring wealth that benefited the nation. The Roman army was the most advanced of its time, using new techniques and weapons that brought other nations to their knees. The fighting techniques that they came up with were only able to work due to the rigorous training that took place. â€Å"They developed fighting techniques that were linked to a very hard training regimen† (Trueman). Training was very tough, long days of parading and maneuvers as well as physical fitness and martial skills was what a typical day would consist of. Recruits would often be punished for failure so they would become very fit and disciplin ed or else could face extra duty or even worse, a whipping. When the Romans went off to battle the new recruits were placed in the front lines, with the more experienced soldiers behind them. There are three main reasons for this. These two boys end up leaving their northern village home to fight in the deadly trenches of World War I. The story tells of Xavier’s struggles with his new morphine addiction (from a war injury) as well as his recovery. In The Red Badge of Courage written by Stephen Crane the story of a boy by the name of Henry Fleming who joins the American Civil War to help him on his way to manhood. The effects of war on Henry Fleming are reflected in great detail, describing the physical and psychological impacts of war on the Henry and the other soldiers. The effects of war have not changed a lot throughout history as reflected in both of these novels which span two different historic wars. While the effects of war are endless. Many people think that war is typically just physical injuries (ie. Getting shot) however that is not accurate. We will write a custom essay sample on The Effects of War or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In the beginning of the novel Three Day Road, Xavier had gotten off a train after his time fighting in World War I, while he is healing from his injury. War has made him addicted to Morphine. This ruins him, as Morphine is an extremely addictive drug and it becomes very hard for Xavier to function without his Morphine injections. Morphine was given to Xavier for the fact that his leg was blown off during his time in battle. Physical injuries are usually a result of war, and were extremely more common in World War I. This was something that was inevitable if you were a soldier in WWI. Besides medical and physical effects on soldiers, psychological effects on a soldier are a lot more common than previously imagined during WWI. The Red Badge of Courage is said to be one of the most realistic portrayals of the psychological effects that are a result of warfare. However, the effects of war are not always negative; there are certain people who have grown up because of war. The main character in the story, Henry Fleming did not enjoy his boring life on his farm. Being in search of glory and popularity, he decides to enlist in the Union army against his mother’s wishes. The most profound change for Henry in the story was his transformation from a child to a man. His naive attitude was replaced with experience and logical thinking. Another very common result of war is gaining the sense of courage. Many of the soldiers joined to gain a sense of independence and to prove to themselves that they are tough enough to survive war. In Henry’s case he had gained the sense of courage throughout the book but it is most heavily shown at the end of the story when Henry learns what the true meaning of courage. Courage is not just a personality trait; it can be learned if put in certain situations and if somebody has the proper motivations. As a young soldier during the Civil War, he is around other men who are tougher and more experienced than him. One of his main concerns is the way he appears to other soldiers and his superiors on and off the battlefield. As Henry progresses through the book he gains more and more knowledge and realizes that the opinions of other people can drive people to do things we would otherwise not be able to complete by ourselves. Another common issue in both of these novels is the evolution and development of the main characters. In the novel Three Day Road we see the transformation of the native culture, into the modern world and war. In The Red Badge of Courage it is shown in his transformation from being a naive child to an experienced war veteran as a direct result of joining the Union army. â€Å"He went slowly to his tent and stretched himself on a blanket by the side of the snoring tall soldier. In the darkness he saw visions of a thousand-tongued fear that would babble at his back and cause him to flee, while others were going coolly about their countrys business. He admitted that he would not be able to cope with this monster. He felt that every nerve in his body would be an ear to hear the voices, while other men would remain stolid and deaf. (124) Duty is another underlying common theme between the two books. Henry Fleming is in a constant debate with himself as he tries to overcome the struggles of his duty in the war. As a young soldier serving in the Civil War, he struggles between the duty to himself and his duty as a soldier. â€Å"He suddenly lost concern for himself, and forgot to look at a mena cing fate. He became not a man but a member. He felt that something of which he was a parta regiment, an army, a cause, or a countrywas in crisis. He was welded into a common personality which was dominated by a single desire. For some moments he could not flee no more than a little finger can commit a revolution from a hand. † (202) By comparison Three Day Road, reflects duty also as an important theme that was positioned in the book for a reason. Xavier and Elijah both joined the fight in WWI and were based with the Canadians. Elijah had urged Xavier to enter the war with him as they were best friends in their hometown of Moose Factory. Xavier and Elijah being from the native Cree tribe, going into the horrors of WWI would be like going from one world to another. They were used to being silent hunters, with bows and arrows, striking quickly and silently. These aspects of their hunting skills were their strength in the war. Every soldier had the duty to act in the trench, to defend if attacked and to attack when told to. Their loyalty not only was for the war but deep in their hearts the duty to protect Moose Factory which contained the ones they loved and is where the two boys had grown up. The common themes in both books of transformation and duty finally lead up to the very common theme of man versus the natural world. In The Red Badge of Courage the author argues that man is alone in a vast world. This could either be nerve wracking to a young soldier during the Civil War, or it could be comforting, providing him with a sense of responsibility. Through the novel there are many examples of what is natural and what is not. (ie. Warfare and fleeing from battle) â€Å"The shells, which had ceased to trouble the regiment for a time, came swirling again, and exploded in the grass or among the leaves of the trees. They looked to be strange war flowers bursting into fierce bloom. (105) Three Day Road is a more obvious example asthey are native Cree men that joined the battles of WWI. This can be seen as a clear interpretation of â€Å"man† as the more advanced world and the â€Å"natural world† as a part of reality with the Cree tribe. Their version of the natural world differs from the natural world of the non-aboriginal people. The old reality and traditions of the Cree tribe have been ov ercome by â€Å"man† which is in a constant battle over the Cree version of the natural world with their traditions and culture. A powerful statement to how war changes and alters lives from all different walks of life. In conclusion, wars have been around for as long as mankind has walked the earth. The everlasting effects of war can be positive or negative and can affect us through physical, emotional, medical, and psychological issues. A human’s experience with war is as unique as the war itself. Powerful images of change and evolution are found in both of these novels. Each reflects a different journey, a different experience yet both reflected the terror, pain and feeling that war brings regardless of time or place.

Overview of the Management Plan

Introduction A plan is an integral part of all complicated tasks to be done. In this respect, a plan should cover all stages of the process including financial part and risk management. Expanding into different markets is a really complicated task that requires a lot of information to be processed, assessed, and used while planning certain activities.Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Overview of the Management Plan specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Thus, the current management plan contains overview of the country to expand into different regions, best practices to take into account, and each sector that should be considered while launching products in other countries. General Overview of the Country Transnational companies should take into account a number of challenges and difficulties that may occur in the process of expanding into several different markets. In this respect, large corporations and companies should acquire knowledge and apply successful experience of other transnational corporations in order to operate effectively in the international market, especially while expanding into several markets outside the country of origin. So, gaining knowledge about â€Å"customers, suppliers, and talent in foreign lands† (Gupta, Govindarajan Wang, 2008, p.217) is one of the most important steps in the strategy aimed at expanding of the company into other markets than its national one. As soon as the company gains information and finds appropriate methods of its application, elaboration and implementation of those to practice, this company can move to the international market. As reported by Gupta et al. (2008), â€Å"One of the most important benefits from early globalization can be rapid growth or even the transformation of an interesting but economically nonviable business idea into a viable one† (pp.221-222). So, effective globalization and expanding into different mar kets can be encouraged by various incentives offered in the markets of other countries as a mean of attracting foreign investments and introducing more active competition onto the market.Advertising Looking for coursework on business economics? In other words, the country of origin and examination of its legal base, rules of making business, and other numerous peculiar features are very important while launching a product onto the mar ket or simply expanding into that market. Best Practices to Implement Experience on business, legal, and cultural practices can be implemented after analyzing other cases of successful application of certain viable perspectives into operation. In this respect, it is necessary to take a set of measures including solving such industry constraints as â€Å"need for local adaptation, need for local infrastructure, and regulatory barriers† (Gupta et al., 2008, p.226). In other words, the company should conduct a thorough research before even trying to expand into different markets all over the world. Incorporation of best practices is aimed at facilitating the application of international needs to the company’s strategies and company’s expectations and long-term plans into international market with its unique needs, preferences, and tendencies of demand and supply, insurance, and risks. Another point that should be taken to discussion is the resources management and its peculiarities for international companies and international market, especially in cases when human resources and materials are the basic ones for the production. As reported by Bartlett, Beamish, Ghoshal (2008), â€Å"The task of coordinating flows of materials, components, and finished products becomes extremely complex as companies build transnational structures and capabilities† (p.651).Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Overview of the Management Plan specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Though materials and manufactured goods are of primary concern, it is necessary to remember about human resources in terms of recruiting and training or outsourcing as the most appropriate way of effective performance. To sum up, the best practices used or invented by other businesses and corporations should be implemented to the extent of creating the most appropriate ground for effective manufacturing goods or p roviding services. In other words, knowledge management, collaboration and communication practices, multicultural awareness and construction of intangible capital are some of the components to be used while expanding into different markets using incentives such as competitive advantage to attract customer and develop their loyalty to the brand. Besides, employees and product distributors who are already conversant with the market are able to facilitate the learning of the markets needs and expectations (Jain, 2003). Management Plan Scope management One of the first steps to be made by the company is to conduct a research on the market’s peculiarities, legal issues, and needs of customers and their expectations from the foreign brand. A team of international experts has to outline the major areas of the highest and lowest priority for company in terms of effective distribution of goods, further development of the product line and brand extension, expanding of the company into other markets, and its financial performance used for research and development, training and professional development programs, incorporation of international practices, and other areas of main concern. Schedule management The team of schedule managers should analyze the situation in terms of various criteria to be achieved and evaluate the periods of time necessary to accomplish the company’s mission. Definite time frames should be stated for each process and each step. In other words, the company should thoroughly plan its operation in the international market.Advertising Looking for coursework on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Financial management Budgeting is one of the most important sectors for managerial to accomplish because it enables the company to grow further and extend its brand line, implement technological innovations to gain more profit and invest it into research and development sector to gain competitive advantage over its rivals. Moreover, successful assessment of sectors in need for financial investment and priority in this issues and distribution of financial assistance can be rather beneficial in terms of areas of highest priority. Quality management Quality of goods and services provided should be assessed by independent experts which involves outsourcing and extra costs spent on this sector. However, if the company is interested in the manufacturing of high-end products and providing the customers with services of high quality, it should spend some costs on establishment of a special department that should deal with assessment of quality, monitoring or activities, and counseling on th e issues that can contribute to the improvement of quality or reducing cost efficiency of products by means of production of certain parts in other locations. Resources management The team of international experts has to evaluate the situation and take the most effective measures to choose the most sufficient method of employing people and delivering materials. As some locations can be farther than others, it will involve extra costs on delivery of materials and increase the cost of goods resulting in decreasing of products’ attractiveness for buyers. All manipulations performed for delivery of materials and distribution of goods should be sufficient in terms of cost of the final product that comes to the market. Communications management One of the key components in transnational management is the communication management; a failure to communicate will lead to poor performance and results. In this respect, all changes that take place in the headquarters should be introduced immediately to subsidiaries. Various software programs and other technologically advanced means of communication can enable the company to take competitive advantage over its rivals. Project change management All changes that occur in the international market are sure to affect the company’s performance. In this respect, it is necessary to trace all innovations and tendencies that affect the international market, assess those, and implement into the company in case they provide the company with some advantage over competitors or will increase the productivity, quality, or profit or good manufactured. Though some changed may be considered positive within the international market, they are not necessarily applicable to the company regarding its needs and perspectives. Risk management Every sector of economics includes some risks as well as perspectives. The company should send some costs on identification, evaluation, analysis, and appropriate treatment of risks. If the company fails to identify risk or does not want to spend costs on this procedure permanently, it can use outsourcing occasionally when some changes in the international market occur. Tracing changes and taking appropriate measures in terms of risk management can be done with the help of independent experts. Procurement management The company should take measures to ensure that all departments function in accordance with the company’s plan. Any changes and difficulties should be identified by the change management team to take steps and prevent occurrence of certain problems in procurement sector of the company in future. Delivery and distribution of material and manufactured goods is really important for the company. So, it should spend corresponding costs to provide all sectors with appropriate materials and prevent system failures. Conclusion To sum up, the plan contains consideration of the most important sectors to manage before starting to perform in the international market. A s transnational companies have to consider risks, legal issues of other countries, cultural diversity of employees, and many other issues, a management plan is the document to rely on while expanding into different markets. Overview of the country is of high importance because the country of origin can become a competitive advantage while producing goods and providing services. Reference List Bartlett, A., Beamish, W. Global Warming

Global Warming Free Online Research Papers Global warming is a very real scientific study and a part of our lives. It is an increase in the average temperature of the earths atmosphere due to the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. If we ignore the facts now the results could be catastrophic. Global warming has been caused by the people of the world. Many things have happened as a result. Since the beginning of the 20th century the average surface temperature has increased by 1.1 degrees. Just in the past 40 years it has risen by a half of a degree. This doesnt sound like much right away but any change in temperature causes melting to the polar ice caps. If they continue to melt the sea level could start to rise dramatically. As of now the global sea level is raising 3 times faster in the last hundred years when compared to the last 3000 years. Within the last ten to fifteen years the results of global warming have been hard to ignore. Seven out of ten of the warmest years in recorded history have been in the 1990s. With the combination of global warming and El Nino in 1998 the temperatures shot to a new high. Mountain glaciers have been receding. The arctic ice pack has lost about 40% of its thickness in the last 40 years. Even plants and animals are showing a wide range of effects in recent studies. Even though all the scientific evidence is out there some people **** think global warming is a junk science. They wont believe it. These are the seeing is believing type of people (Farah,Global). Joseph Farah from the WorldNet daily news thinks that it is horrible that there is a chapter in every science textbook about global warming. These books talk about the hysterical claims made about this theory. He says that It wouldnt make a bit of difference if we burned up all the oil reserves in the world in a day and a night. There would be no noticeable or measurable impact on the worlds temperatures. Many scientists around the world would beg to differ with this statement (Farah,Global). The explanation to many as far as why global warming is taught in school is that it is the governments control over you. They want to scare you into wanting more control over yourself. This translates into more laws and less freedom. The only problem with the theory is that there is scientific evidence that proves that global warming is a real problem. Global warming is affecting everyone. You can find changes in your own backyard. The extremely noticeable changes are found when studying habitats of plants and animals. Scientist are now seeing a slow move northward. Other habitats are having a change in the timing of their life cycles. In the Polar Regions a big problem is arising. Once frozen solid land is now turning into swamp. This will eventua1ly lead to a time when the Arctic Ocean will be ice-free in the summer months. Most animals native to this area like polar bears, ice-dwelling seals and some sea birds will be pushed to the brink of extinction.( NESMITH, 2004) People that dont believe in global warming say that theres no scientific proof that the earths temperature is rising. Evidently they never read up on the greenhouse effect. The earths atmosphere has mix of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide. This mixture is a delicate balance that makes the temperature on earth proper for plant and animal life. Without these gasses, scientists estimate the earths surface temperature to be well below freezing. (Pringle, 2001) The problem that no one seems to realize is that by burning fossil fuels we are putting carbon into the air. Carbon absorbs heat. So when it goes into the atmosphere we get more heat. Carbon is also released very rapidly during deforestation from the burning of trees. Instead of the plants filtering our air of carbon dioxide they release carbon into the air forming carbon dioxide. Its a double negative which is greatly affecting our temperature. The releasing of aerosols has almost the same effect as carbon dioxide on the atmosphere. They both end up causing the same problem. Incoming light from the sun goes through the atmosphere and the greenhouse gasses and gets absorbed by these greenhouse gasses. But now that we are adding to the amount off gas we are getting more heat absorption. These gasses are adding up every day. In 1987 the carbon dioxide reached 340 parts per million and in 1999 360ppm. It is estimated that in 2050 the carbon dioxide count will be 600ppm. This is at the point in which the global temperature would be higher than it has ever been and will cause serious problems unlike the warning sign we are experiencing currently (Pringle, Global Warming4-20). It is a fact that the average rise in temperature globally is 1.1 degrees. The startling fact is that parts of Alaska, Canada, and Northern Russia they have experienced a rise in temperature by 5 degree Fahrenheit. This is because they are in the Northern Hemisphere where there is less water. Less water means less of the new found heat is being taken away by the vast ocean. If your still a skeptic than listen to this. In the last 16 years the front of the Columbia Glacier has retreated more than eight miles (Pringle, Global Warming10-20). And Montanas Glacier National Park will have no glaciers within a couple of decades. The Aletsch Glacier in Switzerland lost more than 300ft. of its thickness. In 1995 more than 500 people died in Chicago alone. This was because the heat waves at nighttime left no relief from daytime heat stress (Pringle, Global Warming6-25. With the heat in 1997-1998 from El Nino we can see how easily there could be widespread infection. Some people think that the warming up of the planet would be a good thing. And yes, some things would flourish. They include pests, livestock, diseasesed mosquitoes, and parasites. Clearly you can see that global warming will definitely not help improve the world in the years to come. To slow down global warming drastically we need to look at the main sources of carbon dioxide which are coal, petroleum, and natural gas. The problem is that this would basically shut down, the coal and oil industries, oil-exporting nations, the automobile industry, and many manufacturers (Pringle, Global Warming15-30). So because these powerful companies dont want to lose money they hire shanky scientists to deny that there is a global warming problem. It will be a slow change but there are already some things being done. Hybrid cars have been out on the market for a couple of years now. They use a small gasoline engine and high powered electric motor to drive the car. These vehicles get exceptional gas mileage and pollute considerably less than the conventional automobile. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are almost ready for production. The next step to have hydrogen refilling stations around the world. Until we find a solution for global warming we need to make widespread knowledge that this is not a joke. It will not go away if people believe that it doesnt exist. We are the cause of global warming so we must take action against it. If it is ignored than the effects could be horrifying. It is probably the most threatening problem towards mother earth, and something has to be done instantly to stop or at least slow down the scary development. The gradual warming of the earth's atmosphere is due to an increased amount of carbon dioxide released into it. The burning of fossil fuels, oil, coal, and natural gas are the main activities that release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. People all over the world add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere every time they drive their car, or use electricity produced at a fossil fuel power plant. The increased temperature due to the effects of global warming can be disastrous. Low lying areas and islands are in danger of being overcome by increased water levels in the ocean. The oceans water levels are rising because of the temperature increase, which in turn increases the rate at which the polar ice caps melt into the ocean. Warmer temperatures may lead to severe droughts and floods in some places. Animal species may not be able to survive. Vegetation will not adapt fast enough to find new habitats when heat encroaches its existing homes. What the majority of American's may not realize is that America as a country are expelling 25% of the harmful gasses that contribute to the greenhouse effect on the earth's atmosphere. This figure would be reasonable if the population represented 25% of the population on earth, but in reality the United States contains only 4% of the earth's population. It is not fair to the rest of the world to add so much to the greenhouse p! roblem without doing anything to try and stop it. The United States cannot bear the environmental burden alone. It will require a joint effort to solve this complex problem. The world has seen the levels of carbon dioxide jump 30% since the pre-industrial age. This evidence suggests that humans have significantly inc

Causes of the Civil War Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Causes of the Civil War - Essay Example The North and the South regions of the country were very different from each other in economic sphere. While the northern regions were industrial developed and people living there "earned their living producing iron, steel, machinery, and cloth in factories" (American History - Overview), the southern part of the USA was oriented to agricultural goods production. Since Missouri Compromise of 1820 the territory of the country had been divided into two parts: industrialised North and agricultural South. The Northern states used paid workers labor who worked in different branches of industry while Southern states used slaves' labor; slaves worked in plantations growing cotton, rice, tobacco and sugar. Such differences between the two parts of the country are the main cause of the Civil War. This development disproportion goes back to the early 1800s when "the Northern states were rapidly becoming industrialized. The population of Northern cities increased" (American History - Overview). Such disproportion resulted in irreconcilable contradictions between the North and the South, and these contradictions in turn resulted in the Civil War between the North and the South. There are also two indirect causes of the Civil War. These are slavery and states' rights. ... Slavery adherents argued that slavery was economically profitable and not wrong. But many slaves didn't want to suffer from their masters' exploitation and fought against it. Some of them came to the North where people had possibility to be paid for their work. Against those who ran away from their masters strict measures were initiated1. But in the same time many slaves took their position for granted considering that it is their destiny and they would be awarded after death. In the 1800s some states of the Southern part of the United States "argued that it was the right of the state to decide whether or not to allow slavery. This right and others are sometimes referred to as 'states' rights.'" (American History - Overview). From this point of view the following documents are especially interesting: these are William H. Seward's Irrepressible Conflict Speech and "Houses Divided" Speech by Abraham Lincoln. William H. Seward, democrat, convicted slavery asserting that "The slave system is one of constant danger, distrust, suspicion, and watchfulness. It debases those whose toil alone can produce wealth and resources for defense, to the lowest degree of which human nature is capable..." (William H. Seward, 1858). He gives examples of slavery in different countries and epochs, such as in Russia, Turkey and some others. He underlines that slavery cannot exist in democratic countries: "In states where the free-labor system prevails, universal suffrage necessari ly obtains, and the state inevitably becomes, sooner or later, a republic or democracy" (William H. Seward, 1858). Abraham Lincoln, republican, was more decisive. He appealed to refuse from slavery and points out that it is impossible for one country

Producers Reaction to Raw Material Price Changes Essay Example for Free

Producers Reaction to Raw Material Price Changes Essay These days all over the world people use products of crude oil. Most of people cannot imagine their life without products such as diesel or gasoline. However, these are only the finished products, which go through specific stages of production. They are made out of crude oil, which sometimes is called „black goldâ€Å". Fuel; however is not the only production made out of crude oil. Lubricants, asphalt, paraffin wax, tar – all these are product made out of crude oil. As stated by US Energy Information Administration (EIA): estimated consumption of oil in the world in 2011 will be 87. 421 million barrels of oil each day. Obviously, crude oil is an important material in the modern world. It has an important role in economy as well. The cost of crude oil affects economy both directly and indirectly. Nowadays, debates about rising prices of fuel or heating are almost an everyday topic. The price changes of fuel are always mentioned on financial news on TV. Naturally, it is interesting what influences the cost of crude oil. How the rise or fall of price affects the price of fuel, and how businesses deal with the fluctuating prices. 1. Crude Oil as a Raw Material When talking about product price changes it is important to understand how the price of raw material is calculated and how it is affected. The perception of how the price is set for the raw materials gives an opportunity to better understand the price of the final product, and all the fluctuations related to the final products’ prices. Also, it helps to recognize how various political decisions or world-wide events, including disasters or new innovations, affect various markets. As for crude oil prices, the statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy called Energy Information Administration (EIA) has defined seven key factors which have an influence on and each contribute to the price of crude oil. 1. Production. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) consortium provides about 60 percent of all the oil production traded on international markets and 40 percent of the world’s oil production. All actions and statements of this organization can and do affect world oil prices, because of the dominant crude supply market share. Changes of the amounts of crude oil production lead to changes in price. If OPEC cuts the production, it generally means a rise in price of oil. 2. Supply. The other oil suppliers still represent 60 percent of the world’s oil supply. Even though non-OPEC suppliers as a group are 50 percent larger than OPEC, they have almost no spare capacity. Non-OPEC suppliers are considered to be â€Å"Price Takers†, rather than â€Å"Price Setters†. They respond to market prices, not like OPEC, who manipulate them. Consequently, non-OPEC suppliers practically produce near to full or at full capacity. Any fault in production has the effect on increasing oil supplies. As well, it gives OPEC the capability to further manipulate world supplies. 3. Global oil inventories. The supply and demand is balanced by global oil inventories. For example, if more oil is produced than demanded, the excess supplies can be stored. This principle also works in reverse order. If consumption exceeds demand, inventories can be used to meet the growing demand. The bond between oil inventories and oil prices makes corrections possible in either direction. If oil futures rise in comparison with the current spot price for oil, the need and urge to store oil will increase. As well, spot oil prices will drop, if market makers notice an inventory build. That is the response to balance demand with supply. 4. Financial markets. Oil is not only sold by its physical form, but also there are trade contracts for future delivery. This type of sales is called â€Å"futures†. In order to avoid future oil price increases, some major customers, like airline companies, purchase futures. That is because oil price changes have a significant impact on their ability to operate profitably. Also, often oil futures contracts are sold to lock in a price for a specific period of time. 5. Demand. The Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is an international organization of U.S., Japan, most of European countries, and other advanced countries. The organization is responsible for 53 percent of the world’s demand for oil. Even though OECD countries consume more than non-OECD countries, the rate of growth in OECD countries is considerably slower. OECD demand went down during the period from the year 2000 to 2010. However, non-OECD countries’ demand went up by 40 percent during the same period of time. 6. Non-OECD demand. For the last decade China together with Saudi Arabia and India had the largest growth in crude consumption among non-OECD countries. There is a direct relationship between the rate at which oil consumption rises and the rate of economic growth. It is not surprising that for China and India, the use of crude oil is increasing at a very fast pace compared to the United States’. Besides that, developing countries also usually have more manufacturing-related industries, which have a tendency to consume higher amounts of crude oil. 7. Spot market. Crude oil is sold all over the world. There are many different â€Å"streams† of crude oil, however they are likely to move in lockstep with one another regarding the prices. All these streams are put in a certain process of production to make product which are used, such as: gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, lubricant and other various petroleum products. All of the financial channels on TV are talking about crude oil prices. However the essential point here is the price of the final products. Any events that have the power to disrupt the flow of crude oil and end products have a significant effect on the price of those goods. Geopolitical events, massive oil leaks, natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes, terrorist acts, etc. all are included to the list of event which can and do influence the price. Both supply and demand are rather inelastic, this means that any of the above events, or perceived risk of the happening, usually leads to higher prices, espe cially in the futures market. All these factors clearly show how easily the system of oil trading can be shocked, leading to huge swings in the price of crude oil. Also, it has to be pointed out, that most of the world’s oil supply is located in countries or parts of the world that are politically instable. All this explains why the price we pay for oil product is so volatile. Example how natural tragedies affect the price of crude oil: In 2010 April 20th in the Gulf of Mexico a huge oil spill took place. It was one of the biggest oil spills in history. Without a doubt it had a significant impact on the oil prices. Figure 1. History of oil prices. Clearly, the chart shows that the price of oil rose when the clearing begun. This proves, that certain events have influence on oil prices. 2. Gasoline usage Gasoline is the most popular Transportation Fuel in the U. S. Gasoline is one of the most popular fuels consumed in the United States and the main product made from oil. Usage of petrol in 2010 was approximately 132 billion gallons, which means about 360 million gallons a day. Gasoline used as energy for transportation stands for more than 64%, 48% of all petrol consumption and more than 18 % of all consumed energy in U.S. Petrol is mostly used in cars and light trucks. It is also consumed by owners of boats, recreational vehicles ran by fuel and landscaping, farm, construction equipment. Benzine is made year-round, however, the highest demand and the biggest imported quantity is seen in the summer. The graph shows the amount of gasoline consumed in U.S. 1950-2010: Over 260 million vehicles on the streets Nowadays, in the United States, gasoline is the fuel used by most passenger engines. There are more than 260 million vehicles that use gasoline, the amount of them increases each day and they manage to travel over 12,164 miles per year. There are around 170,000 fueling stations that ensure comfortable refueling for users. Above two-thirds of fuel consumed for moving is in the form of petrol. Each benzine station usually sells three types of petrol: * Regular * Midgrade * Premium 3. Determining gasoline prices The changes of gasoline prices affect all the countries and their economies. Each person that owns a vehicle run by petrol is affected individually. Every day the retail price of gasoline changes, but only few people know what exactly makes the prices fluctuate. There are several different factors that has sway on fuel prices. The first and also the biggest reason that influences the price of petrol is the cost of crude oil from which it is obtained. In 2000, average retail price of gasoline was only 2.37$ per gallon and the total price included only 55% of crude oil. After more than 10 years the costs of it grew and the percentage of crude oil now seeks over huge 66%. In the last few years the consumption of petrol fuel grew so rapidly that the producers of these had many difficulties succeeding to fulfill their cutomers needs. The growth of demand of fuel is another huge factor that has affected the cost of petrol. The demand isntantly grew up and the supplies went down. This made a huge influence on petrol price. In addition, another great reason of gasoline price growth is refining costs and profits. In 2000, it made approximately 15% of total price of fuel. After 10 years, the percentage of those costs consisted over 12%. The percentage reduced, but it still remains high and definately makes a huge impact on retail fuel price. Crude oil price change influence on producing gasoline The price of crude oil is one of the main factors that influences the cost of retail gasoline. The cost of crude oil changes each day. The price depends on many different factors. The change of the crude oil price hugely affect the retail price of gasoline. When the price of crude oil grows, eventually the cost of petrol also rises. The growth of crude oils price reduces the production of gasoline, diesel, gas. Producers lowers the production of petrol and fuel and also increases the retail prices of them. When the price reach highest point, the demand of fuel, gas and gasoline reduces. After the price and demand stabilizes, price starts to reduce and demand begins to grow. Conclusion First of all we can say that prices of oil production generally are set by OPEC. They provide crude oil all over the world, so generally they can control prices of oil. Moreover, other suppliers still represent 60 percent of the world‘s oil supply, however they don‘t set prices, they are more like „price takersâ€Å". So OPEC certainly manipulates the power they have. Global oil inventories help to balance supply and demand; the excess supplies are more likely to be stored, when growth of the prices is forecasted. OECD is mainly responsible for the demand of oil. Even though OECD countries consume more than non-OECD countries, the rate of growth in OECD countries is considerably slower. Crude oil is the main material which is used to make gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, lubricants and other various petroleum products, but it doesn’t set the total price of fuel, the main thing is the final product. Moreover, the price of crude oil can be affected if the system is disturbed, because of natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes, terrorist acts, etc. Talking about gasoline, it is the most popular fuel consumed in the U.S. and the main product made from oil. Petrol is used in almost all cars, light trucks and boats. Usage of petrol in 2010 was approximately 132 billion gallons, which means about 360 million gallons a day. Gasoline used as energy for transportation stands for more than 64%, over 48% of all petrol consumption and more than 18 % of all consumed energy in the United States. Furthermore, there are around 260 million vehicles that use gasoline, the amount of them increases each day and they manage to travel over 12,164 miles per year. To sum up, the main things which fluctuate prices of fuel are: the fluency of crude oil supply system and the actions and statements made by OPEC. All in all, raw materials’ prices change and influence producers’ behavior. In the case of crude oil production, prices tend to go up, because of relatively inelastic supply and demand. Yet, more efficient technologies are created to minimize or replace use of crude oil products.

Comparison of Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor in Millers The Cr

Comparison of Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor in Miller's The Crucible The Crucible is play that helps to show human nature through a series of events linked through the Salem witch trials. In this play, a group of young teenagers would undermine the religious government and make a mockery of the Salem judicial system. Miller also shows human nature through the development of characters. Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor are foils of each other and have many differences; they would also develop many similar traits. One of the main links between the two women is their love for John Proctor. This would create much animosity between the two women and would lead to much strife between the two. While Abigail Williams saw Elizabeth Proctor as an old witch that only wished to blacken her name to the community, Elizabeth saw Abigail as a whore that only wished to steal her husband away. I am convinced that Abigail’s beauty and youth also served to create a hostile atmosphere as Elizabeth is threatened by this. Another reason that Elizabeth is threatened by Abigail is the fact that she believes that Abigail still has feelings for her husband. Even though Elizabeth eventually comes to the realization that her husband has no feelings for Abigail, she continues to hold on to the notion that they did share something, which becomes evident when John Proctor is forced to state â€Å"Then how do you charge me with such a promise? The promise that a stallion gives a mare I gave...

Human Resource Planning Process Essay

The ongoing process of systematic planning to achieve optimum use of an organization’s most valuable asset – its human resources. The objective of human resource (HR) planning is to ensure the best fit between employees and jobs, while avoiding manpower shortages or surpluses. The three key elements of the HR planning process are forecasting labor demand, analyzing present labor supply, and balancing projected manpower demand and supply. When a business becomes large enough, it must pay attention not only to the employees it needs to hire, but what kind of employees it is hiring and what skills it is giving them. Human resources planning is the strategy businesses use to link their vision, mission, and primary goals with the employees they hire for day-to-day processes. It involves both logistics and leadership skills. A company may have all the financial resources it may need. But what if the manpower employed to manage the finances isn’t well trained? Well, nothing more than your finances will be going down the drain. Most of the corporate frauds are a result of unethical and mismanaged processes. Improper human capital may create a numerical output, but not the desired one in terms of quality. Most of the time, the term human resource management is synonymously used with personnel management. However, the meaning is still the same. It involves, employing, developing, utilizing, managing and understanding the staff in an organization. Importance of HRM: Organizational Psychology holds that successful organizations do not owe their success solely to market realities and sustainable competitive advantages. Actually, there is a lot more. Successful companies are those that consider their human capital as their most important asset. Facts and figures are the quantitative elements of successful management, yet the qualitative, i.e. the cognitive aspects, are those that actually make or break an organization. Since the industrial revolution, the world has progressed tremendously. Be it the steel industry, IT, fashion houses or housing sectors, development in all of these is evident. However, over the ages man has indiscriminately used and abused the natural resources available to him. It has resulted in a global energy crises and depletion of resources in general. In this backdrop, what remains is an abundance of human resource, or let’s says human capital. To achieve any more goals, tapping the right kind of resource is the key. We may have a business house worth millions of dollars. But what if there isn’t the manpower that suits the nature of the business? Hence, developing the manpower is of utmost importance. The Process of HRM Planning: It demands the HR manager to first understand the business requirement. Only if he comprehends the nature and scope of the business, will he be able to employ those who will deliver the required performance. When it comes to engaging the manpower, the manager should have a keen eye for spotting the talent. It ensures that the workforce is competent enough the meet the targets. Additionally, the existing ‘talent pool’ in the workplace should be taken into consideration, so that people with complementary skills can be employed. The functions of the HR manager are varied; he has to assess the currently employed workforce and their shortcomings. Identifying these shortcomings goes a long way in choosing an efficient workforce. While recruiting the new employees, the HR manager must calculate the expected workload. This way the HR department can design an accurate job profile and job expectations. Once you have the decided job descriptions, looking for candidates who fit the job will be easy. Don’t be fooled by their qualifications, it is only the relevant experience that matters more. A good HR manager is one who has the zeal and passion to motivate his prospective employees to perform to their potential. This process, thus, can be considered as one of the strategic steps for building the strong foundation of an efficient workforce in an organization. Thus culture plays an important role. To continue with work and job that is to manage the duties and responsibilities effectively and honestly, the level is organized by the management so the work gets divided as the role means the specific job is done by the specific person and there are different levels. Benefits and compensation The area of Compensation and Benefits belongs to the most specialized areas in Human Resources Management. Compensation and Benefits usually plays the role of the HR Controlling, setting the rules and procedures around the salaries, variable pay and benefits. Compensation and Benefits is usually the function of HRM most connected with the competitors on the market and it sets the compensation policies, which are fully competitive on the job market, but the policies still meet the targets defined by the organization. The clear definition of processes in Compensation and Benefits is very important as the processes are under the attacks from the line management every single day. There is no a day without a pressure for the salary review at the individual employees and the rules and standards must be waterproof. Our Increment system is so update. It depend a employee’s full years different status like his work hour, working efficiency, extra work, environmental behavior (internal and external), approach with customer and his co-worker etc. Every term is defining some points and all total point indicates his increment and benefits. The correct base salary is very connected to the competitive salary issue. The correct base salary is the salary, which ensures: * the organization can hire a new employee at the requested level skills and competencies * the organization is able to keep the employee * the employee is motivated * the salary is felt as being fair The most important aspect is the fairness of the base salary to the employee, managers and the organization. Many organizations went through many organizational changes and the employees were moved from departments to completely different departments in the organization. After such an activity, the HRM Function has to be proactive and the overall organizational scan of the base salaries has to be conducted to revise the compensation policy of the organization. There are always employees, who are underpaid in their new position and employees, who are overpaid. The role of the HRM Function is make a clear picture of the organization, to present the situation to the Top Management of the organization and the conclusion has to be made. The Top Management has to receive a proposal from the HRM Function ensuring the situation will be sorted out by several actions and the time frame has to be agreed. Compensation Strategy is one of the most important strategies in the HRM Function as it influences the costs of the organization and potential bad decision can lead to very serious damages to the organization. The compensation and benefits strategy is derived from the overall HRM Strategy and it has to be fully aligned. When the HRM Strategy sets the main objectives for the HRM Function, the compensation and benefits strategy has to follow. When the overall HRM Strategy states the low cost of services and employees, the compensation and benefits strategy cannot target the highest salaries at all levels. The compensation and benefits strategy sets the general rules for the compensation and benefits area in the organization and the owners and leaders of the area. In some organizations, the compensation and benefits department is just a support department for the line management. In other organizations the compensation and benefits manager is a very powerful employee in the organization with the right â€Å"veto†. The compensation and benefits strategy sets the position of the organization on the job market and defines the items in the total cash in the organization and their role. The role of different components of the compensation is very important as the role of the compensation components can differ. For example, the role of bonuses can be primarily in performance reward or the retention of the employees and the organization has to decide. The compensation and benefits strategy has to reflect the reality in the industry and the surrounding job market. The compensation strategy can set the wish to pay the lowest possible salaries, but the HRM Function and the organization have to respect the reality on the job market. The compensation strategy needs a strong support from the top management as it sets strong limits to the daily operation of the line management and they usually do not fully agree with all the aspects included in the compensation and benefits strategy. Apart from these, there are several other areas where the human resources department plays an important role. Hence, the department is termed as a support department. In order to work efficiently for the employee welfare, it is mandatory that the people working with the human resources are aware of how to handle the above. Human resources are the assets of any organization. They need to be looked after as they are the reason for the company’s existence. Human resource is also one of the various functions in an organization. It is responsible for human resources management of the company. Thus, human resources become an important department and function of any organization. When you take up a job in the human resources, you are basically dealing with the policies and strategies followed by the organization for welfare of the employees (human resources).
